Gibson / Byrdland / 1956 / Sunburst / Guitar
Now available on consignment, a stunning example of an original 1956 Gibson Byrdland with a carved spruce top, and solid maple back and sides.
Developed by Hank Garland and Billy Byrd in 1955, this high-end jazz model was $565 new with only 56 of these guitars being built in 1956!
This particular example though well played, remains in mostly original condition including its original fretless wonder frets, nut, and alnico 'staple' magnet pickups.
The guitar has had the tailpiece replaced at some point, having a period 350T tailpiece instead. The pickguard also has 2x extra screws through the front, these replaced the screws for mounting the pickup covers by the pickguard (see pictures).
Otherwise the guitar retains its original hardware including its abr1 bridge, strap buttons, and Kluson Sealfast tuners. The original plastics all remain as well, and the guitar is free from any breaks or repairs.
The original frets play well though low (great for jazz chords), and the neck is straight having a low-medium action.
Includes its original brown tolex case in decent condition, handle has been taped up.
