It is in near mint condition with all original electrics and finish, no touch ups or over spray. All correct hardware with the possible exception of one of the banjo tuner tips (although I am struggling to tell which one). It plays brilliantly well with a fast, low action and what a deep rich, bass sound this can produce…
It seems sometime back in 2012 it suffered the all to common with these, headstock break. After what could be a local repair attempt the then owner decided to send it back to Gibson to get the masters to carry out the repair. Some $1,800+ dollars later!!!! it was returned with probably the most stable headstock repair in the world. Various other work carried out at the same time - please see the pic of the worksheet.
It says on the sheet ‘knobs replaced’ but someone must have found some correct ones as the ones on there now are totally correct, original bonnet knobs for 1959.
Anyhow, the net result of all of this is this bass is now a stunning player with a brilliant sound. Even acoustically it really, really does sound rather fine and we are finding it very difficult to put the thing down..!
Included is the correct Lifton type brown, pink lined case which looks at first glance like an stretched 1959 ES-335 case. This is also in very fine shape.
Frets are in perfect condition, they were levelled and polished ($250) as part of the 2012 work by Gibson and it looks like it has had little use since then. Tuners work really well and the whole guitar is a very nice package indeed…
