Gibson / EB-3 / 1968 / Cherry / Guitar
Bought at the Birmingham Guitar Show from the widow of the original owner who has enjoyed this bass since he purchased it brand new in 1969...
Debuting alongside its six string brothers in 1961, the EB-3 became Gibson’s flagship bass quickly becoming popular with bass players, in particular the UK. The peak period of production came towards the end of the decade with 2000 being shipped every year between 1969 and 1971. These late 60s examples still retain the all mahogany construction with a 1½” nut width.
The bass is overall in excellent condition. There are some signs of use of course, the odd knock and scratch to the mahogany body, but nothing too extensive. There is some damage around the jack socket that has been repaired. The finish has been wonderfully worn.
The one piece mahogany neck is in equally good condition. The Indian rosewood fretboard shows little sign of wear and there is plenty of life left in the original frets. As with the body, the neck has worn comfortably.
Plastics are in good condition as is the hardware.
Electrically everything looks correct with pot codes being week 52 of 1968
The guitar comes with a hardshell case.
One of the undoubted classic bass sounds of the 60s and early 70s, this bass has no shortage of round, warm tones available. Its slinky feel and light weight help make it a joy to play.
Something a little different for the collection or a different tonal palette at the next gig, this might be just the bass you are looking for.
