Gibson / ES-175 CC / 1979 / Sunburst / Guitar
A killer 1979 Gibson ES-175 TD CC for all those days of wine and roses…
Introduced in 1949 as a mid level archtop, the ES-175's all laminate construction meant that costs could be kept down. It was also the first Kalamazoo design to feature a Florentine cutaway. Available initially with a single pickup, the double pickup ‘D’ incarnation was introduced officially in 1953. In 1957 it was fitted with a pair of Gibson's new humbucking pickups. This example is quite rare, only 500 having been made between 1979 and 1980.
As you can see from the photos, the guitar itself is in fantastic shape. The top, back and sides show little signs of wear and the lacquer is gorgeously glossy. The finish has faded somewhat but this doesn’t detract from the overall look of the guitar.
The neck too is in stunning condition with a few minor marks. The fretboard is in good condition and the original frets have plenty of life left in them. The headstock shows a few marks as expected and there is no sign of any breaks or repairs. The tuners have been changed.
The hardware and plastics are in great condition
Electrically everything is correct.
The guitar comes with its correct Gibson Hardshell case.
Tonally, this guitar is quite lively. As you’d expect, it’s loud acoustically, exhibiting a pleasing woody tone which comes across when amplified. The pickup works well to bring out the character of the guitar, taking you from a warm, rounded sound to something altogether more raucous.
Quite a find, you won’t see many of these around. An ES-150 with a cutaway or the answer to all your dreams…
