Gibson / ES-335 / 1959 / Red / Guitar
If you like red guitars and you want a 59 dot neck in red, you're just about out of luck. I know of 6 of them and the last one I know of sold for close to $50,000. And that was a Bigsby. Here's the catch...the finish is excellent but it isn't original. It black lights correctly and but the pickup routs show some brown, so I'm guessing it was originally sunburst. The top is nicely figured with birdseye and the finish is very well done. Gibson didn't officially make a red 335 until 1960 and the early ones tend to fade to a watermelon or even orange color. This one has that fade-more pale rose than watermelon and it's a real looker. The neck is medium-a lot like a 64-.84" at the first fret and .92" at the 12th. Sealed PAFs and all original parts except for the tuners, new harness and probably a couple of saddles. Tuners are repro Klusons. The guitar had Grovers at some point. Case is a super clean brown Stone that is missing the accessory compartment lid. I will consider selling this guitar as a husk (neck and body only) for $12000.
