Gibson / ES-335 TD / 1963 / Sunburst / Guitar
Early 1963 original stop tail Gibson ES-335 in original tobacco sunburst with no headstock breaks and original electrics at a very nice price...
This guitar has probably had quite a colourful history... First of all, as you can see by the shadow on the edge, near the strap pin, someone, somewhere decided an original stop tail ES-335 would look or sound better with a trapeze tailpiece on it. My best guess is this is likely due to too much narcotic consumption by a previous owner.
Second issue is there are a few repaired cracks on the top near the f hole and on the back near the upper bout. The one of the back has had a small area locally over sprayed too. All of these are stable and old.
On the good side - all original electrics, 2 x early PAT number sealed pickups which will be the same as short magnet PAF's. All original hardware with the exception of the tailpiece and studs which are good, lightweight repros. Original finish with the exception of the small area on the back. NO headstock breaks or repairs and original case in decent shape.
Lovely to play, frets are low but are still playable and the fingerboard is in good shape. Medium neck, not too thin and not quite as thick as they get later on in '63.
Original pickups sound classic - early 60's ES with that nice warm bloom and tone that typifies a good vintage ES-335.
Steal it from me and get a great playing and sounding vintage stop tail ES-335 for a nice cool price!
