Gibson / ES-335 TDC / 1964 / Cherry Red / Guitar
From the tail-end of an iconic year for Gibson, this ES-335 bears all the hall marks of that well deserved status as a true classic.
The guitar is superb, the lustrous cherry finish shows no sign of the passing years save for a few minor dings and light checking. Married to correct nickel hardware that is by no means abused by age, this is certainly no wall-flower. The factory fitted Bigsby is very smooth and without doubt looks very cool.
This is an early 1965 Gibson ES-335 TDC that has ALL the 1964 features including that brilliant, medium chunky neck we all rave about, the wide, 43mm nut width and the ‘Custom Made’ plaque that does in fact have factory fitted stop tail studs underneath.
It is all correct and intact aside from one of the best refret jobs we have seen. It has the 1964 nickel plating and 2 x unmolested, PAT Number, sticker pickups that really sing.
The mahogany neck has that comfortable ‘64 feel, not too chunky but enough heft for your well rehearsed Crossroads or White Room. There are a few dings as is to be expected, but this neck will not disappoint. The perfectly re-fretted fingerboard makes for a great playing surface, letting notes ring out true.
As you’d expect from this guitar, there’s bags of sustain and the smooth action of the Bigsby really adds another sonic layer. The un-amplified tone is strong and clear which translates to a well rounded sound when plugged in. The Patent Number pickups really let you hear both the warmth and the bite of this guitar, a bell-like chime when mixed together.
This guitar comes with its correct hardshell case.
Here’s your chance to get your hands on a quintessential guitar from an exemplary period for Gibson….
