Gibson / ES-345 TDSV Bernie Marsden Collection / 1964 / Sunburst / Guitar For Sale
Another guitar from the Bernie Marsden collection, this was purchased by Bernie during sessions for Whitesnake’s Trouble album, recorded at Central Recorders in London.
Bernie tells the story that he’d seen the guitar hanging in a shop window on Denmark Street, across the way from the studio. He’d been looking for a semi hollow guitar and enquired if it was still for sale. The assistant informed him that it was on hold for another customer. Not to be denied, Bernie returned the following day with a Bicentennial Firebird V and offered it as a trade for the ES-345. Moments later he briskly returned to Central Recorders with his new acquisition in his hand having neglected to tell the assistant he was only across the street for fear the disgruntled customer would come looking for him.
This guitar is featured on page 189-193 of Bernie's hardback book 'Tales of Tone and Volume' a copy of which will be included with this sale.
This guitar is in stunning condition. Though the top has faded there is very little in the way of wear and the guitar has still retained that wonderful Gibson gloss.
The neck too is in fantastic condition and both the frets and fretboard have plenty of life left in them. The headstock shows some minor wear but nothing too expensive.
The hardware is a little tarnished as you expect but there is no sign of corrosion.
Plastics too are in great shape.
Electrically everything has been left alone so the guitar is still in stereo.
The guitar comes with an earlier Brown Lifton hardshell case.
The sound is authoritative without being too heavy in the lower midrange. The bridge pickup barks when encouraged whilst the neck pickup is all kinds of smooth without losing definition.
Another stunning guitar with true rock pedigree. One of the highlights of the collection. Grab it before it gets away…
