Gibson / ES-355 TDC MONO Double White PAF's / 1960 / Cherry Red / Guitar
Here's a pretty rare and maybe desirable beast... Not only is is the sought after MONO version of the Gibson ES-355 with NO Varitone but this one, made in early 1960, is also fitted with 2x totally unmolested, double white bobbin, Patent Applied For (PAF) pickups!
A nice example which was made in early 1960 it has many 1959 features including pots dated 50th week of 1959, black 1959 bonnet knobs and original amber Catalin switch tip. Pickguard on it at the moment is an aged repro 1959 ES-335 type but the original pickguard is included in the case pocket which has gassed and deteriorated on one edge (see picture).
All other hardware is original and case included is a 4 latch brown/pink Lifton case from a few years earlier. It even has the original frets that are in very serviceable condition.
Condition wise, it is very nice actually, there are a few dings here and there. There is a bruise by the jack socket where it has been yanked but no crack and there are no neck or headstock issues or repairs at all.
Playing wise, it is fast and slick with a medium profile, it is not super skinny and it is not chunky either. The two totally original double white PAF's sound as good as anything you could possibly hope for and measure a healthy 8.1k and 7.9k. The covers have never been off and by themselves, these amazing pickups must be worth a few bob...
A very rare sight, especially here in the UK. In fact at the moment, I do not k ow of another one for sale!
