Gibson / ES-5 / 1949 / Sunburst / Guitar
Celebrity owned, Ry Cooders gitarr sedan många år, nu på Jam Gitarrer! I majnumret 2003 av Guitar Player Magazine beskrev Ry Cooder sin personliga ES-5 (detta instrument):
"The '49 Gibson ES-5 is fitted with the same pickups Merle Travis had. There's no master volume, just a volume for each pickup. The neck pickup is the sound of a beautiful, big, purple gabardine suit. If you want to twang a bit, you dial the rear pickup in a little and you're there. It has a very rigid top, so it doesn't feed back." Helt original förutom ny guldfärgad singleline mekanik och strängfästet som kommer från en Byrdland.
Ken Daniels på Truetone Music i Santa Monica beskriver hur det gick till: I sold that guitar to Ry myself many years ago. The original tailpiece was on it as in the picture. As is often the case with those hinged tailpieces the hinge itselfis a weak point. We've seen them break many times. It can be a difficult thing to find. It also can be welded or braised back together. Anyway Ry being the typehe is never worries about that stuff. He brought it in to Paul (who does all of his work for him) after it broke. We didn't have a proper replacement but we did havethe Byrdland tailpiece which lined up perfectly. He said that was fine with him and that he didn't care about it since the instruments are merely tools to him. Andthat's the story of how the tailpiece came to be.”
