Gibson / ES-5 Bernie Marsden Collection / 1950 / Sunburst / Guitar For Sale
From the Bernie Marsden Collection, this totally stunning, 1950 Gibson ES-5 represents an interest Bernie had in collecting archtop guitars that started 25 years ago. This guitar is featured on page 179 of Bernie's hardback book 'Tales of Tone and Volume' a copy of which will be included with this sale.
Beautifully rich, almost un-faded tobacco sunburst finish showcases a wonderfully three dimensional flame, especially visible on the back and neck. So well cared for, this guitar has lead a charmed life. It also has some beautiful figuring on it and is probably one of the nicest examples we have seen...
The neck too is in equally stunning condition, highlighting the craftsmanship and attention to detail. The lacquer has worn in places but both fretboard and frets are in good condition.
The plastics are in stunning condition, almost as though they’ve been bought new. The pickguard is free of any serious warping.
Hardware is in great condition too with some slight tarnishing of any gold parts.
Case is a correct original brown lifton type with pink lining and like the guitar, is in excellent condition and everything works as it should do.
The T-Bone Walker guitar, this thing goes from smooth to raunch and all places in between. Whilst blending the pickups might not be the most intuitive (this was rectified in 1955 with the introduction of the blade switch and the birth of the Switchmaster) it certainly gives the player a wide palette of options. Single tone control on the lower horn and we’re ready to go.
Stunning guitar which would make a fine addition to any collection. Grab it before it gets away…
