Gibson / Flying V / 1958 / Guitar

1958 Gibson Flying V s# 8 4419 Uncirculated/Original w/Case (Pre-Owned) (Glen Quan Private Collection).

Lightest V of all production picked by Gibson's Tiny Timbrell; Featured in Tom Wheeler's book American Guitars: An Illustrated History.

From Billy "Banana" Stapleton (the original Banana at Large); "Glenn most definitely got it from Tiny Timbrell. Tiny was a rather large man, big personality, who was the Gibson Rep in California during Gibson’s golden years, he was also an accomplished guitarist and recording artist. How Tiny wound up with the V, I can’t remember. Either he thought it was cool, or a dealer didn’t want it and Tiny wound up with it. Tiny hand picked it from the original run and chose the lightest weight one he could find. His claim was it was the "Lightest V" of all production. At any rate he’d had it for years and liked to tell people he had it as bragging rights. I remember when Glenn got it, it still had tags and case candy back then. Absolutely MINT! Sorry it took me a tic to remember the details, but that’s the truth! Best, Billy Stapleton"

Glen never sold it. Since he was the wholesale Gibson dealer at the time he bought this guitar and it was never sold retail it would be considered "uncirculated".
