Gibson / Flying V Korina / 1983 / Ivory / Guitar
I know what you are thinking… why is this the only guitar you will find on our website from the 80’s? Well to let you in to a little secret, we are big fans of all the korina Custom Shop Re-issues that Gibson made from around 1981 through to 1983. They are great guitars, well made, most of them light weight and with a very cool acoustic resonance.
This one also has a very nice pair of unmolested, factory fitted, Gibson Tim Shaw, Patent Applied For pickups that even still have both the stickers intact and complete. As these stickers were placed on the pickup surrounds it is very common to see them worn away.
This one is also in Custom Colour, Ivory finish and looks rather fine we must say. There is not a thing we can see has been changed on this guitar and as far as we can tell it is exactly as it left the factory in 1983. Which again, is pretty rare to see.
This guitar being a ‘G’ serial number must have been one of the last of the run too, I have seen 83’s go up to ‘F’ but this is the first ‘G’ I have come across so it must I guess be one of the very last.
All original irony finish has faded a little in places but overall, there are very few dings on this superb guitar. Obviously there are no breaks or repairs and no overspray or touch ups.
Guitar has had little use and frets are in excellent shape with very little wear. Frets are the original wide Gibson frets. The Tim Sham PAF pickups sound really, really nice too and we think are a significant improvement over the 70’s T-tops that preceded them.
Overall, a very nice and rare to see guitar in a rare finish, especially over here in the UK. It is one of the classic V’s and at the moment, we think it is undervalued in the vintage guitar marketplace. Come and give it a try and I sure you will not be disappointed…
