Today kids, we are going to play a word game. What's that, you say? Well, that's where I give you a word and you guess the meaning and today's word is Avant-garde. I know, it sounds like a couple of French guys, drunk on Beaujolais wine and defending the honor of a bar maid but Avant-garde doesn't mean that at all. What it does mean, loosely is "experimental or innovative" and we would defiantly characterize this instrument as that. This guitar, as you can see is no doubt a '59 reissue, but with more (kind of like Cristy Brinkley with double D's). Same eastern rock maple top, same holly veneer headstock overlay and same vintage appointments as any other R9, but with the addition of a third pickup. If Ace Frehely had played in KISS in the 1950s, this guitar would already be in production at Gibson (give or take a smoking pickup and the ability to shooting lasers from the headstock.) Hey whatever, some people might want a Custom that isn't just a bland black or white and this guitar is the perfect fit for them. To hate or not to hate is the question and like my brother always says, "Peace, love and the Beatles. If you don't enjoy yourself, it's your own damn fault."
