Gibson / J-50 / 1964 / Black / Guitar For Sale

Vintage 1964 black Gibson J-50

This guitar might have been a special order, since it is black, four years before the 1968 black production model. Also, it has the 1930’s to 1950’s old style thin celluloid pickguard, whereas Gibson changed to the thick styrene one in 1963. This guitar has great vintage mojo vibes.

It has a headstock repair by a pro-luthier with the conventional routed in hardwood reinforcement on both sides of the truss rod.  At my request, he also inlaid a so-called “banjo strap” which is a 2,8 mm bent piece of hardwood inlaid from the angled headstock just below the tuners to about 7 cm down the neck with a similar graft on the face. This makes the headstock actually stronger and more resistant to hard knocks than when it was born, as it now has parallel fiberwood at the transition from the straight neck to the angled headstock instead of the short grain at this junction from when it was cut from one block of wood. The neck is refinished black like it was originally.
