Gibson / J35 / 1941 / Guitar

The 1930s in the United States were a time of the Great Depression, and during this period the Gibson Jumbo did not sell particularly well. To boost the company's income, the J35 was introduced in 1936. Essentially this was a cheaper version of the Jumbo, which mainly saved money through a simpler and lighter construction. This resulted in a smooth and lively response, unlike the big and raw sound of the existing Jumbo. The model was succeeded in 1942 by the illustrious J45, but was not without changes during its six-year existence. This J35 has several features that make exact dating difficult, but we do our best to get the facts straight! The spruce top and mahogany back and sides made the J35 a direct competitor to the Martin D18, with the back and sides housing a non-scalloped X-Bracing with three non-scalloped tone bars. On the outside, a single binding adorns both the front and back of a body. The guitar is also equipped with a V-shaped mahogany neck without elaborate decoration, only the simple dot inlay lets you know where you are on the rosewood fingerboard. It is striking that this J35 once had a pickup near the bridge. A new inlaid piece of wood on the top is the silent witness to this, just like where the volume knob once was. Finally, on the side of the body on the bottom curve, the place where the output jack was installed has been filled with a piece of mahogany. The repairs on the top have been painted over with probably shellac, just like the playwear around the pickguard and the rosette. Furthermore, some cracks have been repaired on the top. The guitar also has the typical Gibson crackle that is not to be missed for vintage guitar enthusiasts. The guitar also has the typical dry and woody sound that makes the instrument so popular for chord parts as accompaniment to vocal parts, where the low and midrange are optimally represented. For many, the sound of a vintage Gibson is the ultimate in acoustic guitars, and this J35 undoubtedly shows why this is the case! ABOUT US

I have always been opposed to being trapped into a job eight hours a day to purchase the free time to do what I enjoy. That’s why i started the Fellowship of Acoustics. The fellowship of acoustics was founded by Rudi Bults, Guitarist and obsessed with tone and wood. The idea was offering real expertise when trading and selling the finest instruments in the world from our showroom in Bergentheim, Netherlands. Helping others find the right tools and enjoying an atmosphere that’s unhurried, honest and informative that’s my go. We are nothing like the "supermarket" style music stores, but specialize in string-things only. We are widely known for Flattop guitars but also sell electric, mandolins & banjo’s, amps, parts, and accessories. Our store has earned the reputation for being a great place to shop for the best products and service.
It is our hope that this new website - much more than a list of "gear" for sale - will serve as an example of our commitment to offering a more personal approach, a friendly atmosphere, and an ultimately more satisfying experience for our friends and customers.
If you have any questions just dial +31-523-232205 or e-mail info@thefellowshipofacoustics.com My name is Rudi Bults, and I’m always here to help out. Wherever possible, we would recommend that you visit our store and experience our instruments and service first hand. However, because of our high standards you can be confident of ordering online from us. We hope you enjoy your visit to our site, and welcome your feedback.
