Gibson / J45 Sunburst / 1956 / Guitar

Gibson J45 Sunburst from 1956 as indicated by the serial number #V5013-31. Just a year earlier in 1955 the J45 model got shorter unscalloped top braces which replaced the taller scalloped braces, a larger pickguard with point at upper bout and an additional 20th fret added to the fingerboard. 1956 saw the optional introduction of the adjustable bridge, this guitar probably had this type of bridge fitted when it was new. Over the years though this bridge was replaced with a belly-down bridge and then restored back again to a non-adjustable rosewood belly-up bridge. The instrument does still feature the original larger pointed pickguard which is surrounded by a decent amount of playwear in the sunburst finish of the spruce top. Condition is Fair, it has the expected signs of use for it's age, heavy wear surrounding the pickguard and in the cowboy positions of the neck, finish is entirely original, newer frets look good, one chip in the side of the fretboard between the 7th and 8th frets. The instrument has been through a neck reset, refret, newer tuners, newer back bindings (need to be reglued in the waist), newer bridge plate, one repaired crack on the back, one repaired crack in the top from the soundhole along the pickguard towards the bridge, one crack on the top along the fretboard/treble side which was once repaired but is open once again, fingerboard at the first three frets have been filled in, newer dot inlay between 14th and 15th fret and a newer endpin. Soundwise it just oozes character with a lovely warm, vintage and sweet character perfect for vocal accompaniment and great for recording. The firm C-shaped mahogany neck with it's rosewood fretboard and 628mm (24 3/4") scale length plays like butter and has 43mm (1 11/16") width at the nut, the new bridge features a slightly narrow but surprisingly comfortable 51mm (2") string spacing. Other noteworthy details; saddle needs replacement for a perfect setup and a platemate for the bridgeplate is adviced. Includes vintage hardshell case with yellow lining. ABOUT US

I have always been opposed to being trapped into a job eight hours a day to purchase the free time to do what I enjoy. That’s why i started the Fellowship of Acoustics. The fellowship of acoustics was founded by Rudi Bults, Guitarist and obsessed with tone and wood. The idea was offering real expertise when trading and selling the finest instruments in the world from our showroom in Bergentheim, Netherlands. Helping others find the right tools and enjoying an atmosphere that’s unhurried, honest and informative that’s my go. We are nothing like the "supermarket" style music stores, but specialize in string-things only. We are widely known for Flattop guitars but also sell electric, mandolins & banjo’s, amps, parts, and accessories. Our store has earned the reputation for being a great place to shop for the best products and service.
It is our hope that this new website - much more than a list of "gear" for sale - will serve as an example of our commitment to offering a more personal approach, a friendly atmosphere, and an ultimately more satisfying experience for our friends and customers.
If you have any questions just dial +31-523-232205 or e-mail info@thefellowshipofacoustics.com My name is Rudi Bults, and I’m always here to help out. Wherever possible, we would recommend that you visit our store and experience our instruments and service first hand. However, because of our high standards you can be confident of ordering online from us. We hope you enjoy your visit to our site, and welcome your feedback.
