Gibson / J50 / 1955 / Guitar

This is a more than average sounding Gibson J50 from 1955. In 1955 both the J50 and J45 models got a larger pickguard with a tip, and smaller non scalloped braces. Also the 20th fret was introduced. Immediately noticeable is the fact that this guitar clearly had 2 pickguards, the top pickguard was newer, ugly and removed by us. The other (original) pickguard has been re-glued after restoring the guitars. Back and sides are crackfree only hold lots of weather checking. Our workshop has repaired two cracks at the top and a third crack next to the fretboard is invisibly repaired, also a small piece of spruce fills a small hole next to the sound hole that was simply played away. Beautifully done and almost invisible. The guitar was then set up and made ready for the next owner who will enjoy her no doubt for another 30-40 years or so. Please just ensure that the guitar is humidified in dry winters because it's obvious this guitar suffered from one or two dry winters that developed the cracks we needed to repair. The old pickguard is a bit lumpy but original, just like the bridge, tuners and the finish. The braces have also been re-glued which is almost always needed with older Gibson guitars. The action is perfect, she plays like a dream, has lots of meat on the saddle, by the way the tops of the screws are missing in the original bridge but we will take care of that. In terms of sound, this is one of the better J50s we have had over the years, reminded me of a friends guitar. (Douwe's 1948 Gibson J50) woody, warm but also very open and powerful, ideal for the demanding singer songwriter, the ideal vocal companion and perfect studio guitar! with newer case.     Body Shape: Slope Shoulder Jumbo Finish: Natural Body Material: Mahogany Top Material: Spruce Lefty No Body Details: Pointed Pickguard Neck Material: Mahogany Neck Profile: C-shape Fingerboard Material: Rosewood Fingerboard Radius: 16” Neck Details: Pearl Dot Inlays Nutwidth: 40 mm - 1 9/16" Scale Length: 632 mm - 24 7/8" String spacing: 52 mm - 2 1/16" Bridge: Rosewood Tuners: 3-on-a-plate Pickup none Condition: see description Cosmetic Condition: see description Modifications/, Repairs: see description Tech Notes: Nice action with plenty of room left on the saddle Travels in: Hardshell case Accessories: new replacement tuners/old ones are still on the guitar.

ABOUT US

I have always been opposed to being trapped into a job eight hours a day to purchase the free time to do what I enjoy. That’s why i started the Fellowship of Acoustics. The fellowship of acoustics was founded by Rudi Bults, Guitarist and obsessed with tone and wood. The idea was offering real expertise when trading and selling the finest instruments in the world from our showroom in Bergentheim, Netherlands. Helping others find the right tools and enjoying an atmosphere that’s unhurried, honest and informative that’s my go. We are nothing like the "supermarket" style music stores, but specialize in string-things only. We are widely known for Flattop guitars but also sell electric, mandolins & banjo’s, amps, parts, and accessories. Our store has earned the reputation for being a great place to shop for the best products and service.
It is our hope that this new website - much more than a list of "gear" for sale - will serve as an example of our commitment to offering a more personal approach, a friendly atmosphere, and an ultimately more satisfying experience for our friends and customers.
If you have any questions just dial +31-523-232205 or e-mail info@thefellowshipofacoustics.com My name is Rudi Bults, and I’m always here to help out. Wherever possible, we would recommend that you visit our store and experience our instruments and service first hand. However, because of our high standards you can be confident of ordering online from us. We hope you enjoy your visit to our site, and welcome your feedback.
