Gibson / L-00 / 1936 / Sunburst / Guitar

Gibson L-00 Model Flat Top Acoustic Guitar (1936), made in Kalamazoo, Michigan, serial # 297-B-24, sunburst top, dark back and sides finish, mahogany back, sides and neck; spruce top, rosewood fingerboard, black hard shell case.

The L-00 has been one of Gibson's most popular Depression era guitars, both then and now. This guitar was at the bottom of the flat top line in the mid-1930's but still offered a great value in sound! The top finish is a sunburst with a fairly large center, with celluloid binding around the edge, ornamented with a "firestripe" tortoise celluloid pickguard and a three-ply soundhole ring. The nack and sides are dark mahogany, as is the Big "V" profile neck with an unbound rosewood fingerboard. The headstock carries only a white paint "Gibson" logo. This model was a standard of the day, a professional grade guitar at a price affordable to blues players, Hillbilly string bands and many other itinerant musicians, as well as Gibson's intended student customers. Each one of these guitars has its own character

Overall length is 40 in. (101.6 cm.), 14 3/4 in. (37.5 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 4 3/8 in. (11.1 cm.) in depth at side, taken at the end block. Scale length is 24 3/4 in. (629 mm.). Width of nut is 1 3/4 in. (44 mm.). Well worn and quite played in but a very nice playing and great sounding example of a mid-1930's L-00. There is a good amount of general wear to the finish over the entire instrument, including dings, chips and scratches but no major areas of loss. The rosewood bridge is a slightly oversized replacement, in the correct style but a bit wider than the original. The guitar is fitted with modern repro openback strip tuners with plastic buttons. This L-00 has a brighter and more powerful sound than many examples of this model we have handled, and has a lot of character! Overall Very Good + Condition.
