Gibson / L-00 / 1939 / Sunburst / Guitar
Gibson L-00 Model Flat Top Acoustic Guitar (1939), made in Kalamazoo, Michigan, serial number EG-5844
The guitar is in nice and original condition.
The top finish is a blended sunburst, with a deeper orangey center, larger than in the years before as is typical of the later 30ies guitars. Dark back and sides finish.
The spruce top has less play ware and repair then many other surviving L-00's from this era. A small hole on the left lower side of the top has been elegantly filled. Besides a cleated pickguard crack, there are no other top cracks.
There is single-ply white celluloid binding around the top and back edges.
Presence of a fire stripe tortoise celluloid pickguard and a three-ply sound hole ring.
Mahogany back, sides and neck. There is a crack in the left and right side (glued)
Comfortable fairly sharp V profile neck and an unbound rosewood fingerboard with dot inlays. There is a bit of wear to the fingerboard in the lower positions but nothing that affects playability.
The headstock has the white stenciled "Gibson" logo on the face and the original open gear Kluson strip tuners.
Original rosewood bridge which has some flesh left over on the saddle. The guitar has had a neck reset in the past and is not in need of one. Action is low and guitar plays very comfortable up and down the neck.
This is a fairly bright and punchy sounding example of this modest Gibson classic, an excellent blues fingerpicker and fine all around small body guitar. This guitar has character and a powerful ringing tone.
Comes with its original, worn but usable guitar case.
