Gibson / L-Century Of Progress / 1933 / Guitar

This is one of the coolest looking Gibson vintage guitars we've come across recently; a Gibson L- Century of Progress from 1933. The 'Century of progress' event was a special international exhibition that took place in 1933 in Chicago in the middle of the Great Depression and commemorated the 100 years that had elapsed since Chicago's incorporation in 1833. The 1933 to 1934 Century of Progress exhibition attracted an unbelievable number of 48 million visitors. Gibson seeking to capitalize on this event, focussed on the exhibition's emphasis on scientific progress and unveiled two instruments which both were decorated with the new material "pearloid", a celluloid plastic which had the look of pearl. The L-Century guitar and A-Century mandolin, and a L-75 featured pegheads and fingerboards covered with this material, Gibson produced these Century instruments from 1933 to 1941. This L-Century is cool beyond words, not only because it's a very rare find, especially over here in Europe, but also because it sounds cool. Its FON Number #788 can also be found in Joe Spann's book on Gibson FON numbers.  The guitar has impressive features such as beautiful figured maple back and sides mated to a solid Adirondack spruce top, "small" sunburst finish, 14-fret V-shaped mahogany neck, white pearloid fingerboard and peghead veneer, notched diamond fingerboard inlays within rosewood rectangles fingerboard markers, rosewood/pearl Gibson script logo headstock inlay and stunning firestripe pickguard. The guitar plays fine and sounds fabulous. Condition is "Very Good"; it has playwear and signs of use matching its age but no cracks or noteworthy repairs besides a few small sections of binding which have been reglued and the bridge saddle which has been slotted. The instrument is all original as far as we can see, even the frets! As icing on the cake it also travels in the original hardshell case. Consignment. ABOUT US

I have always been opposed to being trapped into a job eight hours a day to purchase the free time to do what I enjoy. That’s why i started the Fellowship of Acoustics. The fellowship of acoustics was founded by Rudi Bults, Guitarist and obsessed with tone and wood. The idea was offering real expertise when trading and selling the finest instruments in the world from our showroom in Bergentheim, Netherlands. Helping others find the right tools and enjoying an atmosphere that’s unhurried, honest and informative that’s my go. We are nothing like the "supermarket" style music stores, but specialize in string-things only. We are widely known for Flattop guitars but also sell electric, mandolins & banjo’s, amps, parts, and accessories. Our store has earned the reputation for being a great place to shop for the best products and service.
It is our hope that this new website - much more than a list of "gear" for sale - will serve as an example of our commitment to offering a more personal approach, a friendly atmosphere, and an ultimately more satisfying experience for our friends and customers.
If you have any questions just dial +31-523-232205 or e-mail info@thefellowshipofacoustics.com My name is Rudi Bults, and I’m always here to help out. Wherever possible, we would recommend that you visit our store and experience our instruments and service first hand. However, because of our high standards you can be confident of ordering online from us. We hope you enjoy your visit to our site, and welcome your feedback.
