Gibson / LG-2 / 1946 / Sunburst / Guitar
Late 40s Gibson LG-2 anyone?
Gibson’s LG series were introduced in 1942, with a starting line-up of LG-1, LG-2 and LG-3. However, LG-1 and LG-3 stopped production almost immediately after their debut, until they were re-introduced in 1945. All models were 14 ⅛” wide, with mahogany back and sides and ladder bracing for the LG-1, while the LG-2 and LG-3 were X-braced.
This guitar is in good shape. The guitar has been repaired with a neck reset, bracing re-glue and some finish overspray. Most of this work was conducted by Colin Keefe, a luthier based in Nottingham. The top shows some lacquer checking and wear. The sides show some marks and again some checking. These have been lightly over sprayed. The pickguard is in good condition.
The neck is in good shape. This has been over sprayed following the neck reset and is very comfortable to play. The fretboard is in great condition with plenty of life left in the original frets. The headstock shows some signs of wear. A new bone nut has been fitted along with a bone saddle. Tuners are later double line Kluson.
The guitar comes with a hardshell case.
This guitar has a fantastic tone. A balanced, warm sound that works well for either fingerpicking or strumming. The more compact size keeps the low frequencies in check giving the guitar a punchy sound.
A great guitar, a must have for any collection or anyone on the lookout for a rootsy acoustic sound…
