Gibson / Les Paul / 1968 / Walnut / Bass
This our early 1968/1969, serial # 898103, Gibson Les Paul Bass in Walnut with original hardshell case. We call it a 1968/1969 because the serial number sets this guitar's creation to 1968, while the pots are dated 1969. The first model simply called "Les Paul Bass", has a few interesting features, most notably low impedance circuitry, especially designed for recording in the studio. It has a Honduras mahogany body with a three-piece mahogany set neck with 24 frets, and a 30 1/2" scale. Besides volume and tone control it has a number of tone-shaping switches (passive circuitry) and two oval humbuckers. The three way tone selector switch changes the number of coil turns actually connected to the output, making the pickups themselves cooler or hotter. The guitar is in good condition. It has the typical wear of a well-loved instrument. From the original Gibson brochure for the Gibson Les Paul bass:
The Les Paul Bass is equipped with the most advanced electronic tonal network available today. This unique instrument will produce literally all modern bass tonalities and bring forth sounds never before achieved on an electric bass. This innovative instrument has been produced through endless hours of research by the finest Gibson craftsmen and the most knowledgeable electronic engineers.
