Gibson / Les Paul Custom / 1960 / Black / Guitar

This is quite special… This is one of the nicest guitars ever to pass through here and is also a bit of a bargain for what it is. It is a JAW DROPPING original 1960 Gibson Les Paul Custom 3 pickup Black Beauty with it's original hard shell case. You do not come across these like this every day...

It is in excellent original condition with all original paintwork, no breaks, no repairs and no overspray anywhere. 3x original PAF pickups. The only issues are it has had a refret, new nut and fingerboard binding (all very professionally done) and the middle PAF has been disconnected - the lead has not been chopped, it is neatly colied up in the middle pickup cavity. This is a common player mod as the sound in the middle position is out of phase and leaves a lot to be desired… At the moment it acts just like a 2 pickup Les Paul Custom with wonderful PAF’s but it can easily be put back to original wiring if required.

It is a late 1960 (all pots I can read date 43rd week of 1960) so may even be a 1961 which is rare. It does not have a super slim neck though, the neck profile is not too far off a ’59 profile, a little slimmer but not the real skinny type you would expect. Bridge is a non wire ABR-1 and tailpice is the ultra lightweight aluminium type. Caps and wiring are just like you would expect to see in 1961.

Condition wise, it is really nice. There is the usual checking on the original finish but even this is not too bad. There are various dings all over but again nothing too bad and I have see a LOT worse than this - the black finish on these 50’s Les Paul Customs does not wear well over time but this one has survived in excellent condition.

It plays superbly well, with a superb low action on frets that you can actually use. Tuners are original Pat Pending Grovers and it has the original black case with yellow lining and ‘Gibson’ logo that is also in very good shape. Weight is a nice and light (for a 3 pickup Les Paul) 3.8Kg.

This is probaly the best value original late 50’s type Les Paul Custom out there without any major issues: finish work, repairs or overspray. A perfect excuse or reason to sell your house… or your Porsche… or your girlfriend  (only kidding about the girlfriend btw ;-)
