A superb Norlin era LP Custom in iconic Alpine White, which has nicely yellowed. All original except for a replacement nut. Natural play wear to be expected but in great shape. Nice low slinky action and great tone from the stamped Pat No pick-ups.

Since it’s introduction in 1954 as Gibson’s top of the range solid body electric, the Les Paul Custom has continued to represent the pinnacle of Gibson craftsmanship. There is nothing that looks, plays or sounds quite like a Les Paul Custom.

This early 1977 Alpine White version is a great example of a mid 70’s Les Paul Custom. After decades of being on the sidelines as collectors sought out original 50’s Customs and the late 60’s reintroduced models, 1970’s Norlin era Customs are again rightly being appreciated by players and collectors for the great guitars that they can be and values are continuing to rise.

Alongside the traditional piano black Les Paul Custom finish, Gibson introduced a range of alternative finishes during the 70’s such as Heritage Cherry Sunburst, Tobacco Burst, Wine Red and Alpine White. Of these alternative finishes Alpine White has become the most sought after and values of these instruments is higher than some of the other finishes. This finish has become iconic after been seen in the hands of players like Randy Rhoads, Steve Jones and Sylvain Sylvain amongst others.

This early ’77 example (the serial number indicates 1976 but the pots are dated 7th week of 1977) is in great shape. There is some natural play wear as to be expected of a 46 year old instrument that has been fairly well played but well looked after. There is some light lacquer checking, a small amount of buckle rash, a moderate amount of arm wear, a few small dings here and there as well as some play wear on the back of the neck. It is completely stock apart from the nut which has been replaced at some point.

The neck has a medium C profile which coupled with the low action makes for effortless playing. There is plenty of life left in the original frets. The pair of stamped Pat Number pick-ups sound superb delivering a fat Les Paul tone with plenty of bite and articulation. The pick-up covers have been removed in the past but are now back on the guitar. All other solder joints are undisturbed.

This one has ‘second’ stamped on the back of the headstock which means it would either have left the factory with a minor cosmetic flaw or was an employee guitar.

If you’ve been considering getting a 70’s Les Paul Custom then here is a superb example in sought after Alpine White. These 70’s Customs (particularly the Black and Alpine White finishes) are rising in desirability and value and are getting harder to find.

Comes with the original Gibson hard shell case which is in good condition and fully functioning, but does have one broken clasp and another which is slightly loose.
