I remember this particular era in Gibson's history; It was the time when Kramer and Jackson were staking their claims in the guitar market but during this period, I hardly noticed those subtleties in the marketplace because I was too busy down at Westgate Movie Cinemas watching Police Academy and other favorite movies. I was reared watching Jimmy, Ace and Joe, all players of the mighty Les Paul to be aware of any uprising. Unless you were Eddie Van Halen, a Floyd Rose was what we guitarist deemed a device for those who's brain neurons didn't quite fire in sequence. You gotta understand; This was before the Steve Vais of the world had ever really come to the forefront of the guitar world. Indeed, this period in Gibson's history was when they were trying their best to keep up with the fashion sense of a younger fan base and the result was all of these cool, colored Les Pauls. I know the factory also came out with pinstriped Explorers and Flying Vs and that, kids is what happens when you ingest too much paint thinner. Nevertheless, this guitar is a really cool piece, maybe not quite for those Randy fans but for the fans who, like me stayed true to Gibson during the spandex takeover of the mid- 80's. If you like a rarity and don't want to look like your smuggling a squirrel in your britches, then come and get ya some Pearl Les Paul and leave that spandex in the closet...
