Gibson / Les Paul Custom ** ON HOLD ** / 1996 / Emberglow Burst / Guitar
Try as I might, I just could not come up with a story for this guitar. Nothing kooky or crazy would come to mind and so, I went off to Destin this past Superbowl weekend for some golf, beer, football, beer, poker and you guessed it- beer. I got back to the office after getting my behind handed to me two out of the three rounds I played and again when the Denver Broncos starting line- up forgot to show up for the big game and still had no particular line of approach to this guitar's description. Well, guilt eventually got the best of me for letting this very nice Les Paul sit on our website without a description for a week and so I thought I'd take the direct approach and just speak on the things I like about this piece. First, I like the color. It's pretty much a gorgeous and deep Tobacco Sunburst with a hint or purple Bourbon on the edges. It has a nice regal appearance and "Bourbonburst" just has a sexy ring to it. It actually sounds like you would take your lady to Victoria Secrets and tell the assistant, "Yes, give us that outfit in white, red, black and Bourbonburst". Maybe I'll try that sometime and see how it works out for me. Secondly, I like the weight. 8 lbs, 3 oz is exceptional for a Custom and yes, I know it's chambered, but if you were Phil X, you just landed the job as lead axe- slinger for Bon Jovi and you rolled out onstage with this guitar on your shoulder, do you really think any one of the 15,000 people you were playing for would know that this guitar is chambered? I think not and that officially settles any dispute ever brought forth about the tone of a chambered vs non- chambered guitar, doesn't it? If you're playing lead guitar for Bon Jovi, it doesn't matter at all what you have strapped on. Just enjoy the aftershow and shaddup...Finally, I like the figuring on the maple top. Birdseye has always done it for us and we really used to get excited around the 'Elkcave when we'd get a Rickenbacker that was eat up with Birdseye maple. Well, you can imagine our delight when we saw a Les Paul with this figuring! Simply put, it was love at first sight and the entire package, from the looks to the tone just makes us smile with appreciation for a well- built, late 90's Gibson. We think you'll agree and so, if you have any questions or requests, please send them on and we'll promptly and pleasantly respond. After all, it's what we do and take pride in doing. It's simply the "Elk way"...
