Gibson / Les Paul Deluxe / 1974 / Blue Sparkle / Guitar
Not something we normally have here but I'll let you in for a little secret. We absolutely LOVE these rare original Gibson sparkle tops made in 1974 and 1975 and in our opinion, blue is the coolest colour of the lot....
Why is this not twice the price as it should be? Well as can be seen from the pics it has suffered the all too common headstock break. It looks like it broke in the usual area, by that dreaded volute and was held in place by the headstock veneer which does show stress marks. In addition to this, the truss rod cover got a little bent but the repair, done a long time ago, is stable, solid and because of this the guitar is half the price it should be.
Tuners have been replaced with slightly later ones and the caps are the orange drop variety.
Apparently the late, great Les Paul himself autographed the back! Have a look - it certainly looks like his autograph but I have of course no way of verifying this.
Nice solid weight of 4.5Kg and a medium chunky neck make this a nice player with good meat left on original frets. All pots I can read date to 1974 and pickups are PAT Number originals. Included is a later, brown Gibson Les Paul case with a broken lock but latches work fine.
All other hardware is original including the yellowed, crack free pickguard which is something that seems to get lost/broken on these fairly often.
Probably the best deal on an original mid 70's sparkle top out there and if you think these are as cool as we do, you will not be disappointed.
