I don't know who over at Gibson came up with the idea of making this guitar. I mean, of all the possible things to combine on an axe, how did it end up that somebody said, "Hey, let's take a pair of EMG 85s and mix them in with an L.R. Baggs piezo in the bridge." That's like mixing vanilla ice cream and sardines in my book, but I guess if you get close enough to the "Mother" you'll eat anything, right? Simply put, these EMGs howl like banshees and are quite aggressive. Lots of Metallica tone in this little beast, I tell ya and it fits perfectly with almost any amp with some crunch in it. The L.R. Baggs piezo pickup in the bridge provides a clean, chimey tone that's supposed to imitate the sound of an acoustic guitar. Now we all know that it doesn't sound like a D- 28, but it's interesting to mix in the clean tone with the crunch of the EMGs- it's unique and I'm sure that anyone with a little imagination (or motivation) will be able to pull some quirky sounds out of this little gem. It's of course in NOS condition and still retains the plastic on the backplate. That's how we like 'em here- clean, straight and no excuses.
