It seems we may have found what we call a "honey hole" during our last trip to the Philly Guitar show and you are looking at one of the sweet pieces we acquired. I've heard tales of guys buying these Les Pauls new in the mid- late 90s and showing up with them at guitar shows. It's said that they would lay them out next to each other on the floor in their cases and get into arguments over who had the flamiest top. I can picture the scene in my head and although a bass player, I can still appreciate the beauty of these guitars and what they might inspire in a guitarist. Lee said that he would go down to music stores here in Atlanta and see these awesome reissues hanging on the wall with all of the other Gibsons. So here we are 16 or so years later and the true merit and value of these early Historics are being fully realized by the way they are both desired and valued. This R9 is an exceptional piece and the pictures really cannot capture the dimension and movement of the top. It plays and sounds as good as it looks, so I guess you could equate it to a Playboy Playmate that had just hit the lotto and wants to run off to a deserted island with you.
