Gibson / Les Paul SG / 1962 / Cherry / Guitar

This is a  SUPERB vintage original PLAYERS grade 1962 Gibson Les Paul SG Standard in faded cherry red that has the rare ebony block that I have only seen on 1962 early ‘63 SG's - it also have a few issues that prevent it from being a £12k guitar.

It has had the all too common neck break at the heel of the body but no headstock break. This has been well repaired by an expert luthier and is totally stable. It also has had a very old refinish that looks really authentic, in fact it is so good you would at first think it was a very faded original cherry finish. The old refin has also checked nicely and all together, it has a very cool vintage vibe even though it is a refin. So that’s about it for the bad side...

On the good side, there are no headstock repairs, it has original electrics apart from one replaced capacitor. The old PAT number pickups (exactly the same as early 60’s PAF’s) have been off then spliced back on again. All hardware appears original apart from one tuner and it has he rare and desirable, ebony block tailpiece with the short Maestro trem and the very rare (only seen for a short while) original, no wire ABR-1 with the factory ground ‘roller’ base. These were only seen for a short while on guitars with early Meastros or Bigsbys.

Also on the good side is it sounds super - yes it does! The pickups have amazing sounding PAF tones and it plays well too with original frets that have been reprofiled a bit but still extremely usable. The pots I can read date to late 1962 and serial number is 96652. There is no case but I will buy a newer SG case locally and make sure it is well packed for shipment.

These 60’s, small guard SG’s have shown good steady price growth over the last few years, especially the rare ebony block ones ones. I think it is a pretty reasonable price we have on this one...
