Gibson / Les Paul Special / 1959 / Cherry Red / Guitar

This is probably my favourite guitar right now, it is just a joy to pick up and play casually, both plugged in and acoustically.

This is a SUPERB vintage original, with no breaks, 1959 Gibson Les Paul Special double cut in original cherry red finish that has all the important bits right like the original finish, no overspray, no breaks and is nearly all original.

This is a very RARE guitar for two reasons: Firstly it has the full feeling 1959 neck profile and not the later 59/60 slimmer neck that most of these double cut 59’s have and also, probably rarer, is that it has NO NECK ISSUES - it has never been broken and the heel is super solid. As you are probably aware, the earliest double cut Specials had the neck pickup route too close to the fingerboard and because of this, most of these have been broken in that area, but not this one!

It is good condition, but as you can see it has been played and there is a some wear on the back of the neck plus lots of dings and some checking but it really does look very cool, it is all solid, stable, sounds terrific with 2x original P-90 pickups and plays well too with nice action on the original 1959 frets!

There has never been any kind of Maestro, Vibrola or any other tone destroying tailpiece ever fitted to this guitar and there has never been any headstock or neck/body joint repair. The only issues are the pots were replaced sometime in the 80’s and one of the knobs looks very slightly different to the other three. Rest of the electrics and hardware are original including the stunning 1959 P-90’s and the bumble bee caps.

All hardware is original but there are two small, filled holes by the jack socket which indicates it may have had another jack plate on it at some stage.

Pickups are original and sound great and evenly balanced (see the video on my web site). All together a great, straight guitar with good life left on original frets, plays very well and is a resonant guitar acoustically, great fun to just pick up and play. Serial number is 930924 and it has a nice fat-ish but typical and classic 1959 neck. Weight is a mere 3.4Kg.

Included is a non original hard shell case.
