Gibson / Les Paul Standard / 1980 / Red / Guitar

We do not normally sell guitars from this era but when we saw this little red beauty we know we had to make an exception...

Here is a very rare, 100% original factory red, Gibson Les Paul Standard with factory fitted, double white PAT stamped pickups and original hard case.

The red finish is all over the front, back, sides and neck and is a lovely deep solid red with a sort of subtle sparkle - it is quite difficult to describe until you see it and is nowhere near as sparkly as the finish on the '74 deluxe's you sometimes see around. To give you some background on this extremely hard to find guitar here is an extract from the Flying Vintage website -

'During 1980, Gibson produced the Les Paul Standard model in several unusual finish colors, including blue and green.....The Fender International Color Strats and these Les Pauls were produced during 1980,..... Both of these variants were short lived ...'These colorful Les Pauls are finished on the top, back, sides and neck in these solid, non-metallic hues. Specifications for these Standards from 1980 included: a volute (started in 1970 and used until 1981), Made in USA stamped on back of large headstock, Standard engraved on truss rod, creme plastic parts, chrome metal parts, stamped serial number pickups, Gibson logo tuners and gold speed knobs. An interesting feature of this era Les Paul is observed when the control cavity plastic cover is removed. All four of the potentiometers (volume and tone) are affixed to a metal plate which is covered by a metal shield. Apparently, this hardware was used to automate the assembly process as well as provide for reduction of interference from noise sources.  The hard shell case sold with the guitars were black with the Gibson logo in silver and a red plush lining. In 1980, a Les Paul Standard carried a list price of about $850.'

This is the only one of these amazing guitars I have ever seen. To make it even better this example is 100% straight, no-issues, in pretty much near MINT condition!! Included is the original Gibson hard case with the red lining. If that is not enough, this guitar also comes factory fitted from new with the ultra rare and collectable Gibson double cream T-top humbuckers with stamped Pat numbers and exposed bobbins that have never ever had a cover on.

These desirable pickups were only made for a very short time before DiMarzio stopped Gibson using them as believe it or not, they held the copyright on double cream bobbins! These pickups alone are becoming highly sought after and I have seen a pair change hands for a fair bit recently...

Serial number is 82781587 and all 4 pots date to the 45th week of 1980. It was likely manufactured in 1980 and left the factory in early 1981. It plays great, sounds really nice and has no breaks, repairs or other issues. Superb original frets in just about unplayed condition.

A very cool looking guitar that will help you stand out from the crowd and will undoubtably be a future collectable...
