Joe Perry's obsession with his original 1959 Les Paul is understandable from the moment you first see it. The rich, road-worn character of serial number 9-0663 is utterly moving, with distinguishing features that tell the story of a guitar that's been played on stages and recorded around the world. In Joe's own words:
"It's got everything a great Les Paul is supposed to have. The neck isn't quite as fat as, say, a '54 Gold Top, but it's still got a good, meaty neck. It's not a high output guitar, so it's got a lot of tone. It's got a chimey kind of ring to it when I play it on the clean side, which is where I like to play. And it's got all the natural sustain and warmth, and when you turn it up it growls."

Joe Perry's original 1959 Les Paul is as renowned in its legend as it is in its tone. Slash, Boston area legend Billy Loosigian and Eric Johnson have all owned it. Through Joe's various ups and downs, as Aerosmith's Hall of Fame caliber career was established, the guitar passed in and out of Joe's life. Once it was clear that Joe had made the shift from struggling to thriving as an artist, he sought to recapture his most cherished axe for good.

Many years passed, many phone calls were made, and countless near misses occurred until, finally, it returned to the man who seemed destined to call it his own.
