Gibson / Melody Maker / 1963 / Sunburst / Guitar

Here’s a very clean example of a 1963 Gibson Melody Maker. Introduced in 1959 the Melody Maker, first offered as a single-cut design and from 1961 onwards as a double-cut design, features a slab mahogany body and one piece mahogany neck with rosewood fretboard and one single coil bridge pickup.

This particular instrument is 100% original and in amazingly good shape considering it’s 52 years old! There is some very attractive horizontal checking in the nitro finish which I’ve tried to capture as good as possible. Beside a few dings and dongs here and there, and a small finish chip on the top, it’s in excellent condition and the finish is still very shiny. The fret’s are also in very good condition, showing hardly any wear, and there are no cracks/breaks whatsoever. The original chipboard alligator case is included. The handle has broken off, but is still in the case.

These guitars are great fun to play, and you can get a broad variety of tones with just one single pickup if you make clever use of the volume and tone knob. The neck is nice and chunky and the weight of the guitar is around 2,5KG, making it incredibly comfortable to play.

It’s getting harder to find these in reasonable shape and most Melody Makers have been modified over the years, but here’s a well kept 100% original piece from Gibson’s golden era that will attract both players and collectors!
