A Gibson Midtown Standard with Bigsby. Always on the search for new ideas, in 2011 Gibson introduced the Midtown as a blend of classic designs and new features and technologies. The Midtown is based on the visuals of the ES-3xx series guitars, and is thinline but isn’t arched, it’s a chambered, flat top guitar. The top is solid maple (rather than laminate as on the ES-3xx series) and the back is chambered mahogany. Other features include Grover tuners, ’57 Classic humbuckers (Alnico II magnets and #42 wire, as on PAFs), A Bigsby B7 and – quite unusually for Gibson – A TonePros locking roller-saddle adjustable bridge. Overall this is a very nice, reasonably priced Gibson.
"The neck is very, very faaaast and it plays fantastic. I was not sure about the 60’s slim-style taper neck; however it feels very natural and slick. The action was set low and perfect. Not a buzz to be found. You just cannot beat the PLEK system for dressing the nut and/or frets. The 57's sound incredible. From clear, crisp Jazz chord progressions to the saddest howling blues licks. Overdrive these pups and they sound unbelievable. The 57’s are just incredible and the best of the Gibson pickups line. "
"The Midtown is a 2011 Gibson Limited Edition guitar and will not be easy to find in the future. Not easy to get now as a matter of fact from the very Limited Edition nature of this masterpiece."
