We are very proud to present this beauty, an original 1962 ES-335! A legendary tone machine for a huge variety of musicians through music history, from bluesmen like Clapton to great jazzmen and rockers. Exceptional sound, not only thanks to the “good wood”, but to the 2 x PAF humbuckers (sealed, never opened), with amazing definition and power. Very easy and comfortable to play, with a 1 11/16’’ nut width and a medium profile neck (not chunky but not the super thin one). It has the transition ears from Mickey Mouse to sharper-edged ones. 

Original stop tailpiece, has never had a Bigsby (or any other kind of tailpiece) installed. The top has been oversprayed (back, sides and rest of the guitar are untouched), and for that reason this will be a great opportunity to get your hands on a ’62 without having to sacrifice the following 10 years’ vacations fund. You all know that a non-oversprayed stoptail 2 x PAF ’62 fetches around 20k€ in the EU market –IF you happen to find one–.  We’ll give the price a 6.000€ adjustment for the top-only overspray (which is considerably more than the usual 25% hit for a FULL body overspray). So here’s an opportunity you probably won't come across in a long time. 

The PAF humbuckers are original, sealed (never opened). The only non-period correct part is the stoptail (it is a very good and expensive repro) and probably (we’re not 100% sure) the saddles & saddle screws in the ABR-1 bridge (which is, of course, original, as well as the stud screws). 

One of the tuners is from another set, but it is correct and from the same era (single-line double-ring). The fretboard is fantastic and in excellent condition –only has 3 small dings in the upper frets, two have been smoothed and are very hard to spot-. The back of the neck has moderate playwear and is very smooth when playing. No dings or bumps are felt when playing, it is a treat to play. 

It has a pro refret (frets still in very good condition). Very nice checking all over the guitar (less intense but still present in the top). The case is probably original, but it is a period-correct badged Lifton with orange interior, and one latch needs repair. 

The guitar is in fantastic condition, we could call it EXC but we’ll be very strict about it and give it a VG++. It obviously shows some dings, very normal for a 50+ year guitar, but it is has been very well looked after. Obviously the only remarkable issue is the overspray, but we’ve priced it accordingly. To be honest, if we didn’t tell you about it, most folks would probably never know because of how well it’s been done. 

The sound that comes from this beauty is a true delight. PAF’s teaming up with great wood, and this is what you get. The guitar is up to all expectations: looks, condition, originality, sound and according price. 

As a very important detail, world renown vintage 335 expert Charlie Gelber from OK Guitars has authenticated this piece for us. You can see a picture of it (original signed document is included) in the gallery. Here’s what it reads:

This is a factory stoptail ES-335 has never had any other tailpiece installed. Guitar has had the finish on the top only restored. Back and sides are original finish. The top appears to have been oversprayed. It does not appear to have been sanded- only new lacquer applied. The finish work is first class. There is some lacquer overspray in the f-holes. The back of the neck shows moderate player wear on original finish. Original PAF pickups are unopened showing original solder on covers. Rosewood fingerboard in in very good condition with recently pro replaced frets. Original wiring harness, knobs, pickguard, truss cover, ABR-1 bridge, tuners and studs. Repro stop tailpiece. Correct Lifton badged hard case is possibly original and one latch needs repair.
