Taken in a recent p/x, this is a SUPERB vintage original with no breaks 1965 Gibson SG Junior in original cherry red that has the original finish SMALL TYPE 1 pickguard and chrome parts including Vibrola.

This is one of the rare SG’s from this period with no neck breaks or headstock breaks and still plays well It is good condition, there are some dings here and there, some wear marks and some finish checking. The pickguard has the usual shrinkage, is slightly warped and has the usual missing tip.

It has had some other tuners on it at some stage and it looks like there was 4x gemstones on the top part of the headstock as you can just about make out some small feint circles in that area. Frets may have been replace but there is no fingerboard wear so they may have just been dressed.

This is quita a rare, transistional 1965 SG which still has the type 1 small pickguard, the later neck joint, chrome hardware 41mm nut width and a neck profile that is not quite slim taper but also not like the fat 65 necks you usually get. It’s probably one of the last to be made with the small guard.

All electrics are original (pots date early ’65) with a great sounding P-90 pickup. Finish has faded in a few places but it is still a bright cherry red looking almost cardinal or ember red under the right light. All together a great, straight bargain priced vintage Gibson guitar with lots of life left on frets, plays very well too. Serial number is 550629 and weight is a featherweight 3.2Kg
