Gibson / SG Special / 1961 / Cherry Red / Guitar
You just don't see many of these... A pretty rare, original 1961 SG Special with the slant bridge and short, original Meastro Vibrola trem with the metal handle. This one also has the rare original Lifton 5 latch brown SG case with the pink lining that on it's own is worth a fair old bit...
Wonderful guitar, brilliant and classic sounding original P-90's are pretty killer pickups and even the slant bridge works well with decent intonation - as good as any LP Junior at the very least.
It is in excellent condition, the all original finish has not faded very much and is still a very nice, classic Gibson early 60's cherry red which is different to the later cherry reds of a couple of years later.
Case is in excellent shape too but I think it may have been polished or lacquered at some stage however it is not too noticeable and it still has the proper 'Gibson' logo badge.
Guitar has been backlighted and all finish is original and I cannot see any repairs. Everything, as far as I can tell is original, or period correct except the bridge which is a very good repro. In the case pocket there is an older bridge but it seems to work better with this one fitted.
All original electrics with all original solder, nothing disturbed. Original frets are in great condition and it plays real well with a nice, low action. Even the cute and short lived, rare, original version of the Maestro Vibrola trem works well and stays in tune.
Haven't seen one of these for a fair old while and most I see are a LOT worse than this one is. Maybe time to seize this rare opportunity...?
