Gibson / SG Standard / 1965 / Cherry Red / Guitar

This is a  SUPERB vintage original 1965 Gibson SG Standard in original cherry red that has the desirable small guard and NO breaks or repairs anywhere - neck is totally solid and break/crack free which is rare to see.

It is very good condition, there are some dings here and there and has lacquer checking all over but it is not too bad, I have seen a lot worse for a sixties SG!

It is all original but I think it has had an expertly done refret, or at least a partial refret with similar size frets to the originals as some of the nubs are still present but the ones on the lower frets are not tuccked under them. There is virtually no wear on the fingerboard. Looks like the nut has been replaced too, probably same time as the partial re-fret.

All electrics are original with two great sounding, original humbucker pickups of the PAT sticker type. Finish is pretty much checked all over but is still lush looking cherry red. All hardware is 100% original with no changes ever - original tuners etc. Pickguard is slightly warped and has a piece missing from the very tip.

All together a great, straight guitar with none of the usual broken neck or headstock issues. It plays really well too, in fact one of the nicest SG’s I have played! Weight is a fantastic 3.3Kg. Serial number is 509561. Date codes are all obscured by solder but everything in the control cavity looks to be original and correct. Nut width is 41mm and typically for 1965 Gibson’s, it being the transistion year, most of the hadware is chrome except the tuners and strap buttons that are nickel.

Included is an original SG hard case which looks right but is slightly later (late 70’s).

These 60’s, small guard SG’s have shown good steady price growth over the last few years, especially crack free ones. I think it is a pretty reasonable price we have on this one...
