Super clean, large guard ‘69 SG Standard from arguably the most sought after year. 100% original, investment grade example.

Here’s a 100% original ’69 SG Standard in near mint condition. This has to be one of the cleanest examples out there.

1969 is arguably the most desirable year for large guard SG Standards. It is the same year as Angus Young’s famous SG Standard and as such is more collectable than the years either side.

This example is in exceptional overall condition with minimal fading to the deep cherry colour, chrome plated hardware that looks virtually new and no fret wear to speak of. There are 3 or 4 very small surface nicks and one small dink on the edge of the upper horn that goes through to the wood. The back of the guitar has just a handful of very light surface scratches that are only visible when inspected closely under the right light and are virtually impossible to photograph. The pick guard has some light surface scratches from pick wear but again these are only visible under close inspection under the right light. This really is an exceptionally clean example.

The electrics are all correct with the pair of Patent Number stickered pick-ups, original pots dated to 1969, original switch, caps and output jack and undisturbed solder.

The neck has a fairly chunky tapered C profile which perfectly offsets the 1 9/16th nut width, making it a very comfortable neck to play which doesn’t in any way feel tight down the headstock end.

Tone-wise this a rock/blues guitar without question. This is not to say that it isn’t useable for genres that require a cleaner tone such as country or soul, but the fat and somewhat aggressive tone of the Patent Number humbuckers on the SG style body means it really excels when cranked up playing rock or blues. The neck and bridge pick-ups are perfectly balanced and it has its own sonic character which becomes addictive once you dig into it.

If you are a rock or blues player who likes a fat, aggressive tone (or you just want to unleash your inner Angus) then this is the guitar for you. The fact that it is such a clean investment grade example is the icing on the cake.

Comes in a slightly later mid 70’s – early 80’s red-lined Gibson SG case.
