Gibson / SG Standard / 1974 / Cherry Red / Guitar
In the early part of the 70's just after the demise of the large guard, classic SG's (Angus) Gibson launched a restyled SG Standard that was, yes different but definitely had it's own appeal and fans.
What made them so nice was the slick, ebony fingerboard which was never seen before on an SG Standard and a nice slim neck just felt nice, good and comfortable...
This is an excellent example of such guitar. It is all original and was at one time seep cherry red but time has turned it into a nice root beer colour, almost like a natural mahogany version. It is a super light weight, too light to even mention and with it's great neck and super fast ebony fingerboard it is a blinder to play too!
2 x original high output, tar-back humbuckers provide the horsepower for this very cool sounding guitar and all hardware, frets, tuners etc are original. Case is a later 90's Gibson tan coloured SG case with the pink lining and protects it very well.
Neck pickup ring is broken but still functional - they always seem to break in this position around '73, '74, not sure why and there are two tiny cracks by the screw holes of this pickup ring as you can see in the pictures. It is not a neck crack and in no way does it affect anything at all.
At the moment these are a bit of a bargain and if you want one, get one like this with the ebony fingerboard as they switched to rosewood around 75 I think.
