Gibson SJ, Banner Southern Jumbo (1943) 2119 batch, Sunburst, Original softcase
1943 Gibson Southern jumbo, batch-number 2119-14, very good to excellent condition and extremely rare. Featuring mahogany back and sides, Honduras mahogany neck, Adirondack red spruce top, mahogany square neck block. The guitar undergone a neck reset some years ago and got a near perfect replica bridge with 2 pearl dots, the third dot is supporting a bridge tension system on the inside keeping the top down and the tone up. Multiple Bound top and soundhole, Bound back, neck heel caped with white celluloid, tortoise original tear-drop shaped fire-stripe pickguard, double parallelogram pearl fingerboard inlays on the most amazingly grained rosewood fingerboard i ever seen on an Old Gibson, "Only a Gibson is Good Enough" silk-screened gold banner logo, unbound rosewood fingerboard with 19 frets, multiple soundhole purfling, sunburst finish, kluson tuners. The Finish is all original. There is one repaired crack on top against binding, and some scuffing on the finish on both sides of the fingerboard extension, lots of weather-checking and aged patina, but all in all this old and very rare southern Jumbo is in very fine condition. the neck is a comfortable fat C shape neck typical for the early banner guitars, full but strangely comfortable. The typical Gibson dry woody tone-character, that compares to nothing but to old Gibson guitars is a great joy to experience. This example The original soft-case is with the guitar. Consignment sale
