Gibson / Southern Jumbo SJ Sunburst / 1964 / Guitar

This is a typical vintage Gibson; well repaired, véry well played and heaps of tone.  This Gibson has, besides being played much, been maintained correctly. She has a couple of repaired cracks on the top, a nicely repaired headstock-crack and a new bridge with bone saddle (Back in the day they were made with plastic saddles).  Besides all these facts she is very much playable and sounds exactly like a Gibson should. To quote the "Guitars- from Renaissance to Rock" book on these kinds of guitars:  "Gibson's fourteen-fret-neck Dreadnought guitars of this vintage were among the most successful ever made. With a decade and a half of aging behind them, the best have a delightful sound. Not only are the basses extremely rich, but the balance from string to string, and the carrying power of the treble, are exceptional for a Dreadnought." In short, a real players-grade guitar with a very much wanted vintage tone. With vintage guitars like this it can often be a "hit" or a "miss", this one is a definite hit.  Specifications Body Shape: Square Shoulder Jumbo Finish: Sunburst Body Material: Mahogany Top Material: Spruce Lefty No Body Details: Multi-stripe creme binding, multi-stripe rosette, tortoise pickguard Neck Material: Mahogany Neck Profile: C-shape Fingerboard Material: Rosewood Fingerboard Radius: 12” Neck Details: Creme binding, MoP Split Parallelogram inlay,  Nutwidth: 42,5 mm - 1 11/16" Scale Length: 628 mm - 24 3/4" String spacing: 53,5 mm - 2 1/8" Bridge: Rosewood Tuners: Gibson 'Deluxe' Pickup Fishman Sonitone Condition: Good Cosmetic Condition: Scratches & Dings on top and sides, minor wear on the neck, fretwear, headstock inlay slightly chipped off,  Modifications/, Repairs: Repaired headstock crack, top & back overspray, new rosewood bridge w/ bone saddle, repaired cracks on top (bass side, upper bout). Slight riser attached inside the saddle-slot. Bridge is bolted to the body by two screws.  Tech Notes: None Travels in: Original hardshell case Accessories: None

ABOUT US

I have always been opposed to being trapped into a job eight hours a day to purchase the free time to do what I enjoy. That’s why i started the Fellowship of Acoustics. The fellowship of acoustics was founded by Rudi Bults, Guitarist and obsessed with tone and wood. The idea was offering real expertise when trading and selling the finest instruments in the world from our showroom in Bergentheim, Netherlands. Helping others find the right tools and enjoying an atmosphere that’s unhurried, honest and informative that’s my go. We are nothing like the "supermarket" style music stores, but specialize in string-things only. We are widely known for Flattop guitars but also sell electric, mandolins & banjo’s, amps, parts, and accessories. Our store has earned the reputation for being a great place to shop for the best products and service.
It is our hope that this new website - much more than a list of "gear" for sale - will serve as an example of our commitment to offering a more personal approach, a friendly atmosphere, and an ultimately more satisfying experience for our friends and customers.
If you have any questions just dial +31-523-232205 or e-mail info@thefellowshipofacoustics.com My name is Rudi Bults, and I’m always here to help out. Wherever possible, we would recommend that you visit our store and experience our instruments and service first hand. However, because of our high standards you can be confident of ordering online from us. We hope you enjoy your visit to our site, and welcome your feedback.
