The first Anniversary models were created in 1958 to celebrate Gretsch’s 75th anniversary. The color was a Cadillac-like two-tone smoke green, and it looks really nice.
This version from 2008 is quite special, featuring a series of specs not found in current-day models. That year was the actual 125th anniversary of Gretsch, so a small emblem was included in the back of the headstock on all 2008 Anniversaries. It also features nitrocellulose lacquered body in the two-tone green and TV Jones pickups. However, it is not the actual 125th Anniversary model (only availiable in Jaguar Tan and with ML bracing instead of Trestle Bracing), so this is quite a nice find.
TV Jones Powertrons are very warm, with rich mid-tones that kind of remind us of the PAF’s, but maintaining that Gretsch tone. The body is slightly narrower than the 6119’s, and the unbound fretboard is a pretty unusual feature for a Gretsch.
The guitar is in exceptional condition, almost like-new. It may have some sign of playwear, but we basically say this to cover our backs, since we’ve looked closely at it and it looks superb (many “new ones” are hanging from store hangers in far worse condition than this). It includes OHSC (like new) and COA, as well as all the rest of the case candy. One-year warranty included.
