Greetings,
Here, just in on trade we have a great piece of Japanese craft, made in 1976 by Hayashi. (a date code on the heel block confirms this)
There is plenty of online info regarding Hayashi, who went on to become what we know as ‘Headway’ guitars today, still making some of the finest quality Japanese guitars ever to this day.
At the time of production of this beauty, Hayashi were making a series of Martin D-41 copies under the ‘Rider’ brand, this one has a solid spruce top and rosewood body, mid range in the series, which in real terms equates to high range in any other series!
The tone and response is everything you would expect from a good Martin D-41 clone with some extra Japanese bling and ingenuity.
She’s a players piece with some histories of musical skirmishing over the 48 years, as pictured, mainly to the soundboard, and in this respect we can say this guitar is still in very good condition for the age.
There are no structural issues.
The bridge has been slotted for extra bridge-plate security, this means that unslotted bridge pins can be used, or, as with the (original?) rosewood pins fitted, they are just simply turned around to function as unslotted pins.
Otherwise there are no modifications or repairs.
Supplied player ready with a full professional setup, the action is very respectable circa 2.75mm @ 12th with minor adjustment room left, and the frets show some minor wear, overall good and shiny.
Included in the sale is a matching, period correct Japanese case of appropriate condition.
These are very rarely seen for sale, even in Japan, here in the UK, this will be one of less than a handful, possibly the only one as they were not exported here, so don’t miss!
Enjoy!
