Instrument Description:

This guitar started life in 1997 as a hand made hollow bodied Jazz Style guitar much like the Gibson L4 - i.e. HAND CARVED curly maple top and back (NOT a laminate like the ES175) Solid maple sides,  

Schaller pickups and grover tuners.  All high quality appointments.

When I got this there was a rather tatty case and somewhat butchered electronics, as such it seemed 
like an excellent "Summer Project."
 
After quite a bit of planning this is what it has now become:
 
1. Coil tapped Schaller pickups - via push/pull volume knobs. This allows the Humbuckers to be effectively turned into single coil pickups, for those brighter, twangier moments.
 
2. Sprague "Orange Drop" Capacitors for improved, smoother tone control.
 
3. Brand new fitted "Turner" Crocodile Skin (Effect) case.  The case has a built in Humidity meter.
 
4. Fishman Piezo Bridge (Original compensated rosewood bridge will be included in case) - for a truly acoustic sound.  N.B.  SOME OF THE PICTURES SHOW THE GUITAR BEFORE, AND SOME AFTER, FITTING THE FISHMAN PIEZO BRIDGE.
 
5. Schatten Acoustic Endpin Preamp - this has stereo outputs, and therefore the piezo AND the Magnetic pickups can be used - say piezo to the mixer or FOH amps, or an acoustic amp.  Then the Magnetic pickups to an electric guitar amp.  The Schatten preamp requires a 9v battery, this is mounted inside the guitar on the end of the neck - access requires the removal of the neck pickup - so it's a good job that Shcatten reckon this preamp will run for 2000hrs of use on one battery!!  The Preamp also allows independant volume and tone for the piezo (this is via tiny thumbwheel controls that I've mounted non-destructively on the inside if the guitar, and can be accessed easily "on the fly" through the lower "f" hole of the guitar.  This can be seen in the photo 5th from the end!)
 
Essentially you have volume control and tone control on ALL pickups independently, these can then be combined in ANY configuration and blended.  Almost an infinte palette of sounds!
If you have an amp with two inputs - a "Y" lead can be used to send the piezo and magnetic to two different channels (I tried this on a Fender Twin and it worked great!).  If you plug in a mono led all you get is the piezo (my only regret was that I'd have prefered the magnetic pickups as "default"  but the design of the preamp makes it otherwise!) - I suspect that with a bit of careful lead manufacture you'd be able to make a lead that just took off the magnetic signal instead....
 
I'm proud of what I've done here, and am very pleased with the results, but as I'm more of a "rocker" this is too good to keep on a whim....
Jazz guys - this is almost the infinite in subtelty and taste.....
