Hilko Guitars / Rootster / 2018 / Aged Blue Jeans / Guitar
This is a brand new Hilko Guitars "Rootster" model with serial # 5
The Spanish Cedar body is chambered and has a spruce top.
Also the set neck is Spanish Cedar with a Rosewood fretboard with Stewmac’s #152 fretwire.
Nut width is 42mm, neck is D shaped medium thickness. The 4mm allen wrench adjustable dual truss rod is accessible at the headstock.
For electronics I’ve used CTS pots and oil cap on the master tone. Other controls are neck and bridge master volume.
The Roger Daguet “Moonshiner” pickups are handmade in France and sound fantastic.
Tuners are Schaller Grand Tune.
By the help of using 3D printing technology for pickup rings, bridge and tailpiece, I was able to keep this guitar under 3kg.
Bridge and Tailpiece are printed in Aluminum. AlSi10Mg is a strong and low weight material. It’s printed by sintering aluminum powder together with a laser to produce metal parts that are equally as good as machined models. If for any reason you are not happy with the 3D printed aluminium bridge you can swap them for a classic tune o matic bridge free of charge.
Pickuprings are Alumide. Alumide is a strong, fairly rigid plastic material which is slightly porous and resistant to high temperatures (130°C). It’s a blend of polyamide (PA 12) powder and a very low percentage of aluminum powder. The aluminum gives the material a matte, metallic-looking surface with a subtle sparkle.
This Rootster #5 with Aged Blue Jeans finish, has great dynamics and is a versatile workhorse.

Hilko Guitars, Belgium
Handcrafted in Belgium with the finest tonewood and best hardware I can find.
Hilko Nackaerts’ passion for guitars became apparent in his early childhood. As his love and fascination for stringed instruments grew he took up classical guitar playing aged 14. Developing his talents It wasn’t long before Hilko was rocking with a diverse range of Blues/Rock/Soul/Funk bands. In order to hone his craft he undertook a course of study in Luthiery at the prestigious ILSA (International Luthier School Antwerp) in 1994. After soaking up all there was to know about stringed instruments, he hit the road as a guitar tech. He began working for several Belgian bands and latterly toured with K’s Choice, Axelle Red, Fishbone, Night of the Proms, Chris Rea, The Blue Nile and Simple Minds, Nile Rodgers. These extensive tours allowed Hilko to expand his knowledge in vintage guitars and inspired him to build and fine tune his first prototypes. Hilko Guitars was established in 2004.
Working from his Belgian based workshop Hilko constructed his introductory model, the ‘HC’, a hollowbody TeleStyle guitar with an acoustic guitar body and bent sides. An impressive endorsement of this instrument was the instant approval of Charlie Burchill of Simple Minds who was blown away when he played it. Ever since, Hilko Nackaerts has been building guitars for a variety of internationally renowned artists.
In addition to handcrafting guitars Hilko still tours several months a year as a guitar tech. This gives him inspiration for new designs, allows him to keep up to date with the evolving music industry and form professional relationships with guitarists and bass players around the world.
“Every single Hilko Guitar is individually handcrafted one at the time, with the best tonewood/hardware/components I can find. We put our blood, sweat and tears into them, giving them Soul! No two loveguns are alike”
