Hofner / 500/1 Ignition Violin Bass Sunburst / 1964 / Bass For Sale

When the German Hofner instruments were distributed in the UK, they were given model names to match their model numbers, and the 500/1 was called the Violin Bass. Today it is often referred to as the Beatles Bass. The violin-shaped hollow body of maple with a spruce top provides that authentic, warm and round tone that is so characteristic of the Violin Bass. At a feather-light weight of only 2 kg, this bass is unparalleled in its comfort during long performances, a quality that made it so popular in its day. The tonal character of this vintage Höfner is unique; the hollow body construction combined with the characteristic humbuckers delivers a beautifully rumbling, full tone that is perfect for both melodic bass lines and understatement accompaniment. The original switching options - including the rhythm/solo switch and separate bass and treble switches - give you a surprisingly wide range of tonal possibilities. The maple neck with rosewood fingerboard offers a pleasant playing experience with its comfortable C-profile, while the short 30" scale length makes it easy to play complex bass lines. Over the years, this bass has developed a beautiful patina that only enhances its authentic vintage look. This Hofner 500/1 Violin Bass also has features that date the bass to the mid-1960s. For example, it has the 511 large frame 'Staple' pickups, and the tuners are equipped with metal buttons. The raised plastic Hofner logo is on the headstock, from where the strings run over the black and white top nut and ebony bridge to the short tailpiece. To adjust the sound, the mother-of-pearl plate has small switches and cream-colored 'teacup' buttons with brass inlays. This Höfner 500/1 from 1964 is in very good condition, with the charm and characteristic playwear that you would expect from a vintage instrument. The lacquer shows crackle, and the binding has shrunk into the curves of the body. Furthermore, there are several screw holes on the neck and body, and the binding has black parts as position markers. An absolute dream opportunity for collectors and Beatles lovers, but above all an exceptionally playable instrument with an unmistakable sound that no other bass can match! Consignment.

ABOUT US

I have always been opposed to being trapped into a job eight hours a day to purchase the free time to do what I enjoy. That’s why i started the Fellowship of Acoustics. The fellowship of acoustics was founded by Rudi Bults, Guitarist and obsessed with tone and wood. The idea was offering real expertise when trading and selling the finest instruments in the world from our showroom in Bergentheim, Netherlands. Helping others find the right tools and enjoying an atmosphere that’s unhurried, honest and informative that’s my go. We are nothing like the "supermarket" style music stores, but specialize in string-things only. We are widely known for Flattop guitars but also sell electric, mandolins & banjo’s, amps, parts, and accessories. Our store has earned the reputation for being a great place to shop for the best products and service.
It is our hope that this new website - much more than a list of "gear" for sale - will serve as an example of our commitment to offering a more personal approach, a friendly atmosphere, and an ultimately more satisfying experience for our friends and customers.
If you have any questions just dial +31-523-232205 or e-mail info@thefellowshipofacoustics.com My name is Rudi Bults, and I’m always here to help out. Wherever possible, we would recommend that you visit our store and experience our instruments and service first hand. However, because of our high standards you can be confident of ordering online from us. We hope you enjoy your visit to our site, and welcome your feedback.
