Some instruments immediately recall the career of the artist who plays them, and here, it goes without saying that we can not be wrong… In 2008, Ibanez released a limited edition of 300 copies of the JS20th produced in Japan by FujiGen factories, which commemorate and celebrate the twentieth anniversary of the release of the album Surfing with the Alien by Joe Satriani.
The JS20th celebrates 20 years since the release of the famous album but it is obviously one of the most iconic JS guitars ever made because of the 3D encrusted Silver Surfer, the Marvel hero who featured on the cover of the legendary CD, which will be certified platinum in early 1992. Limited to 300 copies worldwide, including 150 for the USA, this guitar is a masterpiece. The body of this superb JS20th is basswood and the neck is maple with a rosewood fingerboard. This guitar also features Joe’s favorite tremolo, the original Edge, 6105 frets found on most JS Prestige guitars, and chrome hardware. On the pickup side, it had exactly the configuration that Joe has been using for years, a PAF Pro for the neck and a FRED for the bridge, with a 3-position selector and of course a high-pass filter activated by push-pull on the volume control . It preserves the high frequencies that fade naturally when the volume is lowered. A coil-tap can also be activated by pulling the tone control and it turns humbucker pickups into single coil pickups! The JS20th was a great success and became a flagship piece of the JS collection, perhaps as valuable as the original Chromeboy…
Our instrument has been collected and has obviously never been played. Frets, hardware and in the end everything seems like new. This superb and rare JS20th comes with its original Flight-Case and some original goodies.
